Astoria, the oldest city in Oregon, is a historic port city on the banks of the Columbia River in Clatsop County on the extreme northwest border across the river from Washington.
The city is named after John Jacob Astor whose company, the American Fur Company, set up Fort Astoria here.
It is also home to Ft. Clatsop, Lewis and Clarks winter encampment for the Corps of Discovery in 1805-6.
